Genius Hour Blog Post 5 - Final Blog Post

WOW! The weeks have absolutely flown by, but it is time for me to make my final blog post and conclude this Genius Hour research project!! I'd like to say thank you for everyone who stopped by to read my blog and see how this Genius Hour project on mindful meditation was going and I'd like to share an even BIGGER THANK YOU to everyone who helped me along the way! I finally was able to complete a fully self-guided meditation session which was one of my goals at the start of this Genius Hour project! The self-guided session was difficult and I found that I became distracted and lost focus much more frequently than during guided meditation. So in sum, I am extremely pleased to have completed self-guided meditation and tried a different form of meditation, but I have concluded that guided meditation is much more effective and successful in my case. I have been taking anecdotes on my stress levels and mood throughout my Genius Hour journey as I have been describing in my blog up

Hi everyone!! Thank you for returning to my Genius Hour project blog to check out how meditation went for me this week! I am very sad to say that unfortunately, meditation was not very successful this week and so I was unable to reach the goals I had set out for myself from last week. While meditation was working really well for me the past 3 weeks and I did feel it was having a positive influence on my stress levels and wellbeing, things just did not click this week and I feel like I took a step back. The main reasoning for this is that I was sick all week and therefore I was unable to really make time where I was able to meditate in quiet and without interruption. My sickness really prevented me from settling in and meditating most nights this week and I am frustrated this happened because it disrupted the flow I was in with meditation. Pinclipart. Hey everyone!! Thanks so much for coming back to my blog to check out how my Genius Hour project on meditation and its impact on my well-being. This week I did my best to keep meditating at the same time each night. I think the consistency helps not only with reminding myself to meditate but in making the meditation more successful. I feel a sense of ease when it is time to meditate almost as if I am anticipating the comfort and tranquillity of meditating. The reminder that I described to you all in my last post - where it would remind me to meditate at the same time each night - has proven to be effective in keeping me on track! I am glad to have found a strategy that facilitates success in my Genius Hour adventure! I didn't really learn anything new about meditation this week, but I did learn a little bit about myself through the process. I am starting to figure out what types of meditation work best for me and have even bookmarked some sessions that I find particularly effecti

This week I spent my time organizing my plan of action for my Genius Hour project and implementing my plan of action for the first few days. The first thing I did was to download the Headspace app because this is probably the most popular guided meditation app right now. In addition, I did use Headspace for a short time about a year ago and I did find I enjoyed. For that reason, I thought it would be best to start my meditation Genius Hour project with something I am comfortable with and have had positive experiences using. I also researched the MindUP program from the Goldie Hawn Foundation because it was recommended to me by my course instructor. The program had some interesting information on mindfulness, social-emotional learning, and positive psychology. It also provided example videos of the lessons included in the MindUP program which provided examples of how mindfulness, etc. could be incorporated into the classroom. This is certainly a good resource and one that I will keep

Hi Everyone! Welcome to my genius hour blog! Genius hour is a movement that encourages creativity in the classroom by allowing students to explore things they are passionate about. I will be participating in Genius Hour throughout this blog and my Genius Hour question will be... How will meditating each night affect my mood and stress levels?!? My goals for this Genius Hour project are to meditate at least once a day before bed and I am hoping that this will improve my mood and make me more resilient to stress. I will evaluate my progress through self-reflection and metacognition. I will take note of how I am feeling each day before and after meditation and hopefully, I will feel happier and less stressed after having meditated consistently. Now a brief introduction of myself: Education: I am a fifth-year concurrent education student at Brock University in the J/I stream with a teachable in French. Before coming to Brock, I graduated with a French Immersion
